Biomedical engineering (BME) is the application of engineering principles and methods to solve medical and biological problems. The group was initially started as a biomechanics group dealing only with the problems related to human body mechanics.
The research in Biomedical Engg group focuses on Bioelectronics, Biomedical Signal Processing, Haptics and Biomedical Optics. It integrates electrical, mechanical, chemical and life science principles in the development of new healthcare technologies and systems, as well as in providing a better understanding of the mechanisms of human life.
The laboratory usually has students pursuing Masters and Doctoral research. In addition to research, the faculties of the laboratory are also involved in teaching courses to the students in IITM. Our focus is on the application of engineering principles in discovery of disease mechanisms and the design of innovative diagnostics and therapeutic
